If you have poor financial credit, many banks will consider you a risk. If you have ever bounced checks, kited checks, accrued NSF fees, or even had a negative balance for a specific amount of time, you would fit into this category. Oftentimes, once your poor credit has been noticed you will no longer be extended the opportunity to bank with ChexSystems banks.
ChexSystems carries a customer’s information in their database for 5 years. This can be difficult to overcome without the assistance of banks and credit unions that are willing to extend their services to individuals with questionable financial credit. These banks may require you to put down collateral or may charge fees. However, it is almost impossible to survive without a bank account. If you use non ChexSystems banks until you have passed your five year time period, you can then get into a normal bank.
Most states have what are sometimes called ‘last chance banks’ or ‘non-ChexSystems banks’ which provide services to customers with bad credit. These financial institutions accept you, knowing that you are a risk. They do, however, sometimes require a security deposit be kept on file.
Kentucky has several financial institutions that are Non ChexSystems Banks. You may want to start with these and see if they can provide the services you are looking for. If not, do an Internet search and see if there are new banks which have opened up.
Please note that the information about non chexsystems banks changes each year (even month). We cannot guarantee any of the banks listed won’t do a non chexsystems check (though at the time of compiling, these banks don’t require a chexsystems check). You will have to call the banks to see.
If you have problems opening up a bank account, the best solution is to open up an online bank account here.
